FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT COURSES:

PRIVATE LESSONS: - weekday afternoons between 2pm and 9pm (alternative times and mornings by arrangement). Saturday 9am until 5pm. Children's lessons* (25 minutes) from £10. Adult lessons* from £20* for 50 minutes and £24 for an hour (where available). Books and teaching materials available at discounted rates. Exam entry RGT / LCM. *Lessons at RGT / LCM / ABRSM Grade 3 and above will incur an additional charge of £2 per grade, per fifty minutes or part thereof for guitar or music theory. £22 per fifty minutes for grade 3, increasing by £2 per grade, per fifty minutes or part thereof to a maximum of £30 per fifty minutes.

COLLEGE COURSES: start at the beginning of each academic term at Warwickshire College Leamington and Rugby and usually run for 8, 10 or 12 weeks. All course enquiries to 01926 318000, or email Jayne Lloyd

ADULT BEGINNERS: - The Beginners course is the place to start. You will require no previous knowledge of guitar, tuning or reading music. Learn around 10 chords and 20 plus songs and tabs to use them with. You don't have to learn to read music to play the guitar!

ADULT IMPROVERS: - The Improvers course usually runs for two or three further terms, consolidating previously learned chords and tabs, introducting new songs and tunes and working towards public performance. You must be able to tune your guitar (with a tuner if necessary) and understand simple, single note tablature, song sheets and chord charts. You should be able to play chords A, C, D, G, E, Am, Dm, Em, A7, B7, C7, D7, E7, G7 with a degree of fluency.

INTERMEDIATE:- The intermediate course runs for a futher two or three terms and will teach you:

1) Multi-note tablature, using classic rock lead solos, introductions, popular classics.
2) Non standard tunings and the theory behind these tunings.
3) Bar chords B, Bm, Bb, Bbm, Cm, C#m, F, F#, F#, F#m.
4) Power chords, suspended chords, transposition.
5) Fretboard fluency (alternate fretboard chord & note positions).
6) Making sense of internet tablature.
7) Effective use of backing tracks.
8) Multi position scales over two or more octaves.
9) Soloing using standard, pentatonic & blues scales over backing tracks.
10) Bends, vibrato, using harmonics, ornamentation.
11) The journey to the dusty end.
12) Performance opportunities.

EXAMS: At the end of the four or five terms (approx 18 - 24 months) of group lessons, you should have a repertoire of around 40-60 pieces, some of which are comparable to those in grades 1 to 3 of the new RGT Acoustic Guitar exams, an option to attempt towards the end of the second year. Exam skills are better absorbed in one to one lessons, however, skills can be shared in partnered sessions (two students) which start at £30 per session (75 minutes).

STRING CHANGING: - £5 per full set plus the cost of the strings. Strings available Darco classical from £4.00 per set, Martin SP from £7. Elixir strings from £15 per set. Single strings from £1.20 each (Elixer singles £3) all plus £1 fitting per string.
